(TORONTO) – Hope Air is pleased to announce that Anna Rusinowski
and Annamarie van der Meijden
are the winners of the Give Hope Wings Adventure Flight Award for Women Who Fly.
This pair of pilots will be participating in the Give Hope Wings - Northwest Expedition this summer, with the goal of raising $250,000 for Hope Air. The epic three-week, 12,000 km journey will fly across British Columbia, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and around Alaska in a truly unique fundraiser for medical care access.
An anonymous donor has generously agreed to donate $50,000 to Hope Air in honour of these two female pilots, supporting women who are starting their aviation careers and have an interest in helping others. Each has been awarded the opportunity to fly on one of the three stages of the Expedition. The donated funds will provide free flights for low income patients who must get to health care far from home to access specialized medical care.
These outstanding women share a commitment to aviation and a desire to give back to their communities. As a member of the board of the Northern Lights Aero Foundation and a member of the Ninety-Nines: International Organization of Women Pilots, Anna Rusinowski is a tireless advocate for women in aviation. Annamarie van der Meijden has attended the Missionary Aviation Training Academy with the goal of becoming a disaster relief pilot, because she believes in the power of aviation to make a difference.
“We are so pleased to have these exceptional women take part in this expedition. We are lucky to have such passionate advocates for patients in need of medical care far from home.” says Alanna Scott, VP Development for Hope Air who was a member of the selection panel. “We had many phenomenal applications, but the compassion and humanitarian commitment of these women truly stood out. We are so pleased to have them supporting Hope Air in this way.”
Spots for pilots and non-pilots are still available to join the Give Hope Wings - Northwest Expedition as a part of the Volunteer Flight Crew. To apply to join these pilots on this adventure of a lifetime, or to donate in support of the expedition please visit givehopewings.ca
