Hope Air CEO Retirement

The Board of Directors of Hope Air would like to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Doug Keller‐Hobson, has decided to retire in early 2020. Doug has provided exceptional leadership and strategic vision to Hope Air. He joined our management team in 2005 as Executive Director and, prior to then, he served on our Board of Directors for two years.

Under Doug’s leadership, Hope Air has gained prominence as a national charity, and expanded its geographic reach and the services it offers to Canadians requiring travel assistance to vital medical care. Doug has fostered strategic alliances with airlines and other business partners, as well as governments. Most recently, Doug has been instrumental in Hope Air’s launch of a platform for providing accommodation to clients and their families attending medical care. Under Doug’s direction, Hope Air has grown from providing 2,100 travel arrangements in 2005 to an estimated 13,500 in 2019 (a 15.6% annual growth rate), and by increasing annual revenues from $400,500 in 2005 to an estimated $5 million in 2019 (a 19.4% annual growth rate). Doug has been forward‐thinking, strategic and focused on the long‐term sustainability of Hope Air. He leaves Hope Air well positioned for continued growth, with a strong and dedicated employee team and community of volunteers.

The Board of Directors has established a search committee and retained a professional search firm to identify a successor CEO, and is working closely with Doug to ensure an orderly transition in the months ahead.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, our staff and volunteers, I would like to thank Doug for the vision, leadership and dedication which he has brought to Hope Air over the last 16 years. He will be missed by our Hope Air family and we wish him the very best on his retirement.
