PLANNING FOR THE PEOPLE AND CAUSES YOU CARE ABOUT
For many people, estate planning is about more than looking after their loved ones. It’s also a chance to think about the values they want to carry forward.
That might mean supporting a cause you’ve cared about for years, helping future generations, or leaving something meaningful behind.
There is no single right way to plan for the future. What matters is taking the time to understand your options and make decisions that feel right for you.
WHY HOPE AIR IS PART OF THIS CONVERSATION
For more than 35 years, Hope Air has helped Canadians overcome the distance and cost that can stand between them and the medical care they need.
For someone living far from the specialized care they need, getting there isn’t always simple.
A medical appointment can mean travelling hundreds or even thousands of kilometres.
It can mean taking time away from work, arranging childcare or finding a way to cover costs that weren’t expected.
Hope Air helps remove some of those barriers by connecting patients with free flights, accommodations and other travel support.
THE IMPACT OF YOUR SUPPORT
Every journey supported by Hope Air represents someone who needed access to medical care. A child travelling to see a specialist. A parent travelling for treatment. A family trying to be together during a difficult time.
Because of our community of supporters, Hope Air can help make those journeys possible.

Getting to treatment, from a remote corner of B.C.
“Two years ago, I went to England and somehow I got ill there,” James recalls. Soon after returning home, he was hospitalized in Bella Bella, B.C., in critical condition with double pneumonia.
But his recovery did not follow the expected path: “We have a flying doctor here every two months and he triggered the fact that the urine samples and blood samples were mystifying him a bit.” That concern led to a series of referrals and biopsies. “They concluded that I had… a rare blood disease,” James says. The urgency quickly became clear: “Within a week he had to start getting treatment or he would die in a year.”
With treatment unavailable closer to home, James travelled approximately 800 kilometres to Prince George. His initial intensive treatment was followed by 18 months of monthly appointments. Each trip involved careful coordination: a float plane from Ocean Falls to Port Hardy, followed by commercial flights through Vancouver to Prince George. Returning home could mean five different planes and an overnight stay in Port Hardy.
Hope Air helped make the flights and accommodations possible, allowing James to access the treatment he needed while continuing to live in the community they love.
When asked what they would have done without that support, James’s answer is simple: “We couldn’t have afforded it.” For Gladys, the impact went beyond travel costs. “Without Hope Air, we would not be able to keep our home, stay where we are, living in our home and actually enjoy life here every day. We would not be able to do it.”
Today, James continues maintenance therapy and looks ahead with hope. “I wouldn’t be here without Hope Air,” he says. “They are a true lifesaver.”
