Government of Prince Edward Island

Access to healthcare for Prince Edward Islanders often requires travel beyond the province. For many patients, especially those facing financial barriers, the cost of leaving the Island for care can create added strain at an already difficult time.

In recognition of its longstanding commitment to improving access to care, Hope Air proudly names the Government of Prince Edward Island as a Hope Air Patron.

Since 1988, the Government of Prince Edward Island has partnered with Hope Air to support residents who must travel out of province for essential medical services. Over time, this partnership has expanded beyond flights to include additional supports such as bridge tolls, ferry passes, accommodations, and targeted relief programs that help offset the full cost of travel.

This approach reflects a shared understanding that access to healthcare includes the ability to reach it. By supporting the full journey, from transportation to lodging and meals, the partnership helps reduce financial strain, prevent missed appointments, and ensure patients can focus on their health rather than the logistics of getting there.

The impact is significant and growing. In 2025 alone, Hope Air supported 1,810 patient and escort trips for Prince Edward Island residents, representing 5,928 medical travel arrangements, including flights, bridge and ferry passes, accommodations, and other essential supports. Demand has continued to rise, with travel support increasing substantially over the past several years.

Through sustained collaboration and a shared commitment to equitable access, the Government of Prince Edward Island continues to play a critical role in ensuring Islanders can access the care they need, regardless of distance or cost.
