Newmont Canada Renews Support for Hope Air, Helping Families in Northwestern BC Access Lifesaving Medical Care

Toronto, ON — [June 2, 2026] — For families in remote Northern British Columbia, Hope Air makes life-changing care accessible by ensuring patients can travel long distances safely, reliably, and without financial strain. This impact is strengthened by the renewed support of $50,000 from Newmont Canada, reflecting a shared commitment to improving access to healthcare in northern communities across Canada.

Newmont’s continued investment will help ensure that patients in Northwestern British Columbia, particularly those in communities surrounding the Brucejack and Red Chris mines, can access essential, often lifesaving, medical care not available close to home. The company’s ongoing work to build strong relationships with local communities, alongside its commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing, aligns closely with Hope Air’s mission to remove barriers to care.

For families like Avery’s in Dease Lake, BC, access to specialized healthcare requires travelling more than 1,500 kilometres to Vancouver. Living in a remote northern community means that reaching care can be complex, costly, and overwhelming at times. With the support of Hope Air, and partners like Newmont, these journeys become possible.

Since being connected to Hope Air through BC Children’s Hospital, Avery and her family have been able to make consistent, worry-free trips for the ongoing cardiac care she requires. What was once an uncertain and physically demanding journey has become manageable, allowing her family to focus on her health and wellbeing rather than the logistics of travel.

“With my single income as a mother of two, I would have had to ask or borrow money from family to be able to take my child to the hospital. I love travelling with Hope Air, the staff know that my child is at risk for a heart condition, and they are extremely nice and respectful.” says Avery’s mom, Shiela

Newmont’s support helps make medical journeys like Avery’s possible, ensuring that families can stay together and access the care they need, regardless of where they live.

“As Hope Air marks 40 years of helping Canadians access the care they need, support from partners like Newmont Corporation is more important than ever,” says Mark Rubinstein, CEO, Hope Air. “This renewed commitment helps ensure that families in Northern and remote communities can reach essential care without the added burden of distance or cost, keeping families together during some of their most challenging moments.”

“Families in Northwestern British Columbia face unique challenges when accessing specialized healthcare, particularly in remote communities. Hope Air provides an essential service that helps remove barriers to care during difficult times,” says Dave Thornton, Managing Director for the Americas, Newmont. “Newmont is proud to renew our support for Hope Air and contribute to healthcare access for the communities around our Brucejack and Red Chris operations.”

By supporting Hope Air, Newmont continues to demonstrate its commitment to the communities where its employees live and work, helping to ensure that cost and distance are not barriers to care.
