Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation Donates $30,000 to Hope Air to Support Patients in Need in British Columbia

September 9, 2024 – Vancouver, BC – The Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation, the philanthropic funding arm of Pacific Blue Cross, has generously donated $30,000, payable over two years to Hope Air, Canada’s only national charity providing free flights and accommodations to Canadians in financial need who must travel to access vital medical care. This donation will help Hope Air continue essential services, ensuring patients in small, remote and rural British Columbia can reach specialized healthcare services not available in their local communities.

Pacific Blue Cross is British Columbia’s #1 health benefits provider and is committed to improving health outcomes for all British Columbians by supporting charitable organizations across the province that align with their vision of improving health and wellbeing. Through the Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation, the organization has been a long-standing partner to many healthcare-focused projects and initiatives across the province.

“This generous contribution from the Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation comes at a time when many Canadians face barriers to accessing healthcare,” said Mark Rubinstein, CEO of Hope Air. “Their support will allow us to serve even more patients who require travel assistance for life-saving treatments. The donation will go directly toward ensuring that no Canadian is left behind due to distance or financial constraints when it comes to accessing medical care.”

The Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation is proud to support organizations that provide vital health services to underserved communities. “Hope Air’s mission directly aligns with our mission to improve health and wellbeing for all British Columbians,” said Jim Iker, Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation Board Chair. “By supporting Hope Air, we can help alleviate the financial stress that many families face when they must travel long distances for medical care, ensuring they can focus on their health rather than the logistics of getting to treatment.”

Over the years, Hope Air has provided more than 200,000 travel arrangements for patients in need across Canada, including thousands in BC. This partnership with the Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation will further strengthen Hope Air’s ability to connect patients with life-saving medical care, reducing the inequality to healthcare access throughout the province.

About Hope Air
Hope Air is Canada’s only national charity providing free travel, accommodations, meals and ground transportation for Canadians in financial need who must access medical care far from home. Since its inception in 1986, Hope Air has provided more than 200,000 travel arrangements for patients regardless of age or medical need.

For people living on a low income in small and rural communities, distance and cost are very real barriers to them accessing vital medical care. Hope Air is a unique and essential part of our Canadian healthcare system. Without the access Hope Air provides, our national system of universal healthcare coverage would fall short of its promise.

Hope Air is accredited by Imagine Canada’s Standards. This accreditation validates our commitment to good governance and transparency. For more information on Hope Air and how to support their mission, visit hopeair.ca.
