Noah, a courageous 18-month-old from Timmins, Ontario, was diagnosed with Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD) just weeks after his premature birth, Noah’s condition required immediate and extensive medical interventions. With the nearest specialized care at SickKids Hospital, located over 800 kilometers away in Toronto, the challenge of accessing necessary treatment was daunting for his parents. Hope Air has been pivotal in bridging this gap, providing critical flights since his diagnosis, transforming a discouraging journey to one made possible.

Noah’s medical path has been filled with challenges that began with mom, Heidi, being airlifted to Toronto while still pregnant after an ultrasound showed Noah had enlarged kidneys. Since birth Noah spent almost a year at Sick Kids undergoing multiple emergency surgeries. Despite these obstacles, his resilience shines brightly. His journey is a significant reminder of why we do what we do: to ensure that distance and financial constraints never stand in the way of life-saving medical care.

The logistical and financial burdens that Noah’s family faced would have been unmanageable. “If Hope Air hadn’t been there for us, our situation would be unimaginably strenuous, financially and emotionally,” said Heidi.

Hope Air is deeply committed to reducing the healthcare access gap for Canadians like Noah, ensuring that every child can receive the care they need, regardless of where they live.
