Hope Air has partnered with the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador, to provide free travel support eligible Newfoundlanders & Labradorians under the Medical Travel Assistance Program (MTAP).
MTAP is a reimbursement program available to all residents of Newfoundland with eligible medical travel expenses, regardless of income. For more information on the MTAP program, visit Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP) – Labrador Affairs.
In this new pilot program, patients have another choice and can apply directly to Hope Air for travel support as per Hope Air’s standard eligibility criteria and availability (including flights, accommodations, Uber ground transportation and meal vouchers).
Patients with approved travel requests with Hope Air do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses for travel arranged by Hope Air. Instead, Hope Air will apply to MTAP for partial reimbursement for flights and hotel accommodation. As part of the application process, patients must consent to:
Patients who do not qualify for the MTAP may still be eligible for assistance directly through Hope Air subject to Hope Air’s standard eligibility criteria.
Consider which program is best for you and your unique needs
Patients are encouraged to consider both options—Hope Air and MTAP—and choose the one that is most economical and suitable for their family’s needs. For example, patients who can afford to pay upfront and prefer to claim their eligible expenses may choose MTAP, while those who need travel costs covered in advance may benefit from applying to Hope Air.
Please be aware that patients who travel with Hope Air cannot submit a claim to MTAP for the same episode of travel. MTAP does make exceptions for long terms stays of 15 days or longer. Consult the MTAP website for the most current information.
