September 5, 2024 – Hope Air is thrilled to announce the launch of its annual plane pull event, Haul for Hope, with WestJet proudly fulfilling the role of presenting sponsor in partnership with YYC. The five-city event launches in Calgary on September 12, 2024, bringing together teams from across the region to pull a 67,000 lbs aircraft 100 meters, symbolizing the challenges faced by patients who must travel long distances to access vital medical care. This growing fundraiser is made more important by the significant surge in demand Hope Air is facing – setting a record for travel supports provided just seven months through 2024.
Mark Rubinstein CEO of Hope Air will be joined by WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech, YYC CEO Chris Dinsdale, and Brian Chafe CEO De Havilland who will lead their teams at Haul for Hope in support of patients in need, further validating that no matter where they live patients living in rural communities deserve the same equal access to healthcare as the rest of Canada.
“It takes a number of partners, working together, to make sure that no patient is left behind,” emphasized
Mark Rubinstein, CEO of Hope Air. “Partners like WestJet, Calgary International Airport, and De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, who fly the routes, operate the airport, produce the aircraft and help our patients get to medical care. We’re launching Haul for Hope in Calgary in recognition of this partnership and are proud that CEOs from each partner organization will lead their teams in a symbolic pull bridging the distance between home and hospital.”
“WestJet shares Hope Air’s enthusiasm for bringing Haul for Hope to Western Canada, and we are thrilled to play a role in this unique fundraiser coming to life,” said
April Crane, WestJet’s head of communications and community investment. “We look forward to kicking off the series of events in our hometown and are excited to see the positive impact it will have. Haul for Hope is a wonderful opportunity to help those who need it most, while connecting with the local aviation community and experiencing our De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft up-close.”
We invite the community to join us in this meaningful team building event, supporting Hope Air’s mission and helping to ensure that no Canadian is left behind when it comes to accessing essential healthcare services. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most.

About Hope Air
Hope Air is Canada’s only national charity providing free travel, accommodations, meals and ground transportation for Canadians in financial need who must access medical care far from home. Since its inception in 1986, Hope Air has provided more than 200,000 travel arrangements for patients regardless of age or medical need.
For people living on a low income in small and rural communities, distance and cost are very real barriers to them accessing vital medical care. Hope Air is a unique and essential part of our Canadian healthcare system. Without the access Hope Air provides, our national system of universal healthcare coverage would fall short of its promise.
Hope Air is accredited by Imagine Canada’s Standards. This accreditation validates our commitment to good governance and transparency. For more information, visit
