Hope Air Achieves Accreditation from
Imagine Canada’s Standards

(January 30, 2024) Hope Air today announces that it has been accredited under Imagine Canada’s Standards. With this achievement, we became part of a respected community of nonprofit organizations dedicated to operational excellence.

The Standards is a recognized nonprofit accreditation created to provide best practices that help organizations improve governance and operations in crucial areas: board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising, human resources, and volunteer involvement.

“We are honoured to be recognized by Imagine Canada through this accreditation of our governance, financial and operational practices. This accreditation represents the gold standard of accountability within the Canadian charitable sector” says Mark Rubinstein, Chief Hope Officer, Hope Air.

“On the journey toward great governance, organizations pursue accreditation as a public testament to their commitment to the highest standards of transparency and accountability. We offer sincere congratulations to the recently accredited and re-accredited organizations, key players in our Standards community of over 270 organizations nationwide.” said Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “We are excited to debut a new Standards brand and logo to stand as symbols of this dedication, embodying integrity, efficiency, and transparency in the nonprofit sector.”

About the Standards
Imagine Canada‘s Standards are designed to elevate organizational excellence and transparency within charities and nonprofits. The goal is to foster resilience and bolster public confidence in both individual organizations and the sector as a whole. The accreditation process involves meeting 73 rigorous standards spanning financial management and accountability, fundraising, board governance, human resources, and volunteer involvement.

Peer-review Process and Compliance
Our policies and procedures in the five areas of compliance were evaluated by a group of volunteers from the sector and were found to be compliant with the Standards. Accredited organizations are required to complete full reaccreditation on a five-year basis. Compliance and continuous improvement during the accreditation period are supported through a reporting process that requires organizations to submit evidence demonstrating selected standards are being met.

About Hope Air
Hope Air is Canada’s only national charity providing free travel, accommodations, meals and ground transportation for Canadians in financial need who must access medical care far from home. Since its inception in 1986, Hope Air has provided more than 170,000 travel arrangements for patients regardless of age or medical need.

For people living on a low income in small and rural communities, distance and cost are very real barriers to them accessing vital medical care. Hope Air is a unique and essential part of our Canadian healthcare system. Without the access Hope Air provides, our national system of universal healthcare coverage would fall short of its promise. We acknowledge that we live and work on the unceded, traditional territories of many Indigenous peoples. We are grateful for the privilege of being on lands that these peoples have nurtured since time immemorial.
