As we begin a new year, I am writing to express our profound gratitude for your important contribution to the work of Hope Air.
Our mission has remained consistent since our founding in 1986 – that neither poverty nor distance should be a barrier to families needing to reach specialized medical care, far from home. We have remained true to our purpose through the provision of flights, hotels, ground transport and meal programs that have enabled more than 170,000 travel arrangements for families in need.
2022 represented profound challenges in the Canadian health care system impacting the ability of Canadians to receive timely and effective treatment. These challenges dramatically affected the most vulnerable – children, seniors, the disabled, single parents and the millions of people living at or below the poverty line. For so many, the costs associated to travel long distances for treatment of serious illness is unbearable.
Through your support, Hope Air ensured that no one was left behind in securing timely and effective access to medical care. Hope Air provided over 9,700 travel arrangements in 2022, a 43% increase over the prior year. We support families in numerous smaller and rural communities across the country, eliminating the financial stress of medical travel expenses. None of this would be possible without your involvement.
As we look forward, our mission and work bring hope to those who often feel helpless and alone. Demand for our programs continues to increase month over month and our team is working tirelessly to ensure that we help patients with compassion on their journey to get well.
